Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG): DUNS Number Requirement for FY 2004 LLEBG Applicants
Beginning October 1, 2003, the Federal Government is requiring that a Dun and Bradstreet (D&B) Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number be included in every application for a new grant/award or renewal of an existing grant/award.
The DUNS number is required whether an applicant is submitting through GMS, the LLEBG on-line system, or using the government-wide electronic portal (grants.gov). An application will not be considered complete until a valid DUNS number is provided by the applicant.
All jurisdictions that are eligible for FY 2004 LLEBG funds will be required to have a DUNS number before their applications can be submitted to the Bureau of Justice Assistance. For the purpose of the LLEBG program, the DUNS number must be issued to the jurisdiction, not the police department, sheriff's department or any other agency or department that is part of the jurisdiction.
How to Obtain a DUNS Number
Jurisdictions should verify that they have a DUNS number or take the steps necessary to obtain one as soon as possible, so as not to delay their application process.
Federal grant applicants can receive a DUNS number at no cost by using the Dun and Bradstreet on-line application process located at https://eupdate.dnb.com/

When calling the toll-free number, inform the operator that you are in the process of applying for a federal grant; this will ensure you are not charged for the processing of your DUNS number.
