PURPOSE: The Superior Court of Arizona will use grant funds to implement a family drug
court, which will target nonviolent adults in the abuse and neglect system who are substance
abusers and criminal offenders. The primary goal of the program is to provide coordinated
judicial and treatment interventions that produce sober parents and create stability for children in
a timely manner. The program will serve 240 clients over a 3-year period. Clients will be
expected to participate in the program for a minimum of 12 to 18 months. The drug court will
provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions,
aftercare, and other rehabilitative services. Additionally, a management information system will
be utilized to monitor client progress and to conduct process and outcome evaluations. The
program will provide collateral services such as housing, transportation, mental and primary
health care, employment, and educational services. The family drug court will coordinate its
efforts with the following agencies: Gateway Community College, the Office of the Legal
Defender, Arizona Department of Economic Security, the Office of the Attorney General, and
Terros Behavioral Health Services.
