$500,000*
PURPOSE: The Saint Charles Juvenile Drug Court will use grant funds to implement a
juvenile drug court, which will target nonviolent, substance-abusing juvenile offenders. The
goals of the program are to reduce crime and recidivism, enhance public safety, and provide
strength-based treatment. The program will serve 120 juveniles and 180 family members over a
3-year period. Clients will be expected to participate in the program for a minimum of 8 to 12
months. The drug court will provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory drug
testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare, and other rehabilitative services. Additionally, a
management information system will be utilized to monitor client progress and to conduct
process and outcome evaluations. The program will provide collateral services such as tutoring,
transportation, recreation, mental and primary health care, and educational services. The Saint
Charles Juvenile Drug Court will coordinate its efforts with the following agencies: the Crider
Center for Mental Health, Bridgeway Counseling Services, Preferred Family Healthcare,
YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Fort Zumwalt School District.
