FY 2002 DRUG COURT GRANT PROGRAM

Enhancement Grant Award

California

AWARD RECIPIENT:

Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara
San Jose, CA

AWARD AMOUNT:

$300,000*

PURPOSE: The County of Santa Clara Mental Health Court will use grant funds to enhance its existing mental health drug court program by adding the services of a full-time psychiatrist who will assist participants with maintaining compliance with court orders and medication protocols, thereby reducing the number of participant re-arrests. During the 2-year grant period, the drug court will serve approximately 500 nonviolent, substance-abusing male and female offenders in a 24-month deferred prosecution program. These offenders will have a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance abuse issues. The drug court will conduct a process and outcome evaluation to gauge program effectiveness and ensure the program is meeting its goals and objectives. The County of Santa Clara Mental Health Court will coordinate with organizations such as the Departments of Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services.
