PURPOSE: The Hampton Drug Court Treatment Program will use grant funds to implement
an adult drug court, which targets nonviolent, substance-abusing adult offenders. The goals of
the program are to reduce crime and recidivism, provide timely court interventions and intensive
case management services and ensure client compliance. The program will serve 180 clients
over a 3-year period. Clients will be expected to participate in the program for a minimum of 12
to 18 months. The drug court will provide intensive judicial supervision, treatment, mandatory
drug testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare, and other rehabilitative services. Additionally, a
management information system will be utilized to monitor client progress and to conduct
process and outcome evaluations. The program will provide collateral services such as housing,
transportation, mental and primary health care, employment, and educational services. The
Hampton Drug Court Treatment Program will coordinate its efforts with the following agencies:
the Hampton Health Department, the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, the Department
of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services, the Hampton Bar
Association, local law enforcement, and schools.
