AWARD AMOUNT:

$ 499,931*

PURPOSE: The District Attorney's Office of Lackawanna County will use grant funds to implement a post-adjudication juvenile drug court program. The goals of this drug court are to reduce substance abuse, promote public safety, improve education performance, and enhance family relationships. This suburban community plans to serve approximately 150 clients and 150 family members over the 2-year grant period. The program will include a minimum of 9 months of treatment followed by a 6-month aftercare component. Upon completion of the program, clients may have their records expunged. The program consists of intensive judicial supervision, sanctions and incentives, and frequent, mandatory drug testing. The court will collaborate with Children and Youth Services, literacy programs, the YMCA, and local university programs.
